Mission Accomplished:
The St.
Lucian United Association received a request for assistance from the
management of Holy Family Children Home on or about June 2006.
The Home, located in Ciceron, St. Lucia is actually run by the
Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church, administered for
approximately 22 children (boys and girls) ages 5 months to 12
years.
As an organization, the executive committee decided to assume an
adoption pattern in order to satisfy the request. The idea was to
have each member select a child by name from a list sent by the Home
and each participating member would be required to furnish a gift
for their 'adopted (or selected) child' for Christmas. In all
probability, a start of godparent/godchild overseas relationship.
The idea among the members seemed so benevolent, that they embraced
the idea with the hope to continue this affiliation for as long as
necessary.
On November 27, 2006, the Association, on behalf of the executive
members and friends, shipped a cartoon consisting of gifts to the
Home for each child as adopted. Each gift was personalized; meaning
that the gifts were addressed by name from the member/friend to the
respective child. The gifts arrived just in time for the Christmas
festivities.
The members of the Association believes that the first stage of this
charitable mission was a success and they are inspired by future
endeavors. |
